FAQ
Does Spencer need a specific diet during his chemo week?
While Spencer is undergoing chemo, his white cell counts are plummeting. As a result, his body can't fight off normal bacteria that is found everywhere. This means a bit of difference in the foods he should be eating. Fresh foods that cannot be peeled or cooked to high temps should be AVOIDED. This includes salad, fruits like grapes, apples, pears, veggies with light skin. Anything that can be easily punctured with a fingernail, is a bad idea.
Fruit like bananas & oranges, with a tough peel, are ok. Also any fresh fruits & veggies that are COOKED are also fine, like broccoli, pea pods, ANYTHING that is cooked is GREAT! It's good to try to be healthy, but the MOST important thing is to keep Spencer eating! He needs to keep his strength up. During his chemo week, he is likely to have a very upset stomach, so stay away from any acidic foods (anything tomato based like spaghetti or chili is particularly NOT a good idea.)
